You just scored your first hit. Everyone knows your name and you are the next best thing since sliced bread.
We know this feeling. It can be overwhelming and confusing. You may be asking yourself, how do I manage this fame? What do I do?
It is important that you prepare yourself for fame. The internet offers thousands of free resources, so you do not have to hire an expert to train you. Learn how to compose yourself, how to answer interview questions, how to pick outfits for events and much more. Do not forget to clear your social media pages. Look no one wants to suffer the dreaded “this you” on twitter. Take out any thing that might offend people or sabotage your brand.
From the get go, it is important you set boundaries and let people know where they belong. If you are a people pleaser then this will be hard to do but you have to. Creating boundaries helps to eliminate ‘see finish’ and minimize gossip. You do not want a private gist or a video of you in a compromising situation leaking to blogs. You may be close to certain industry people but they are not your friend and your secret is not safe with them. Be observant and pick friends you would want in your space.
Have friends and family around
If you have friends and family that you trust, it is important to keep them around. They help you stay focused and keep you on track.
Learn from your mistakes
Hey we have made our own fair share of mistakes. It is okay to slip up. Do not beat yourself up about it. There is no perfect man on this earth. Relax and take notes of what you could have done better and how you can improve. If you have to apologize, go ahead and do so. Make peace with yourself and keep it moving.
Ask for help
Celeb life is hectic. If you have this sense of anxiety or you are depressed, seek help. Bottling up your emotions can be harmful to your mental health. A word from a troll can trigger childhood trauma or memories you thought you suppressed.
Talk to a professional about your feelings and find ways you can overcome it.
Know your limit and take a break
No one knows you better than you know yourself. When you are feeling overwhelmed or depressed. Talk to your management and take a break. Look the music will not run. Your health is so important. Take care of yourself and put yourself first. In the words of Timaya “I can’t come and kee myself”.
Develop a thick skin
This is the hardest part but if you choose the celeb life then you have no choice. Learn to ignore trolls and log out when you are tensed or stressed. People will say things to get a reaction, ignore them. Focus on those who show you love and avoid responding to trolls. There are a million people who love you. The opinion of one troll should not count.
Pick a GREAT team
We cannot stress this enough. The right team is everything. It can make or kill your brand. Do not make decisions based on sentiments. Learn from artists that you admire and see how their team helps manage their fame (PR, Branding, Outfits, etc). One example is Beyonce. You never hear she is working on an album until she is ready to release it.
